"Can we get the raws and full rights for the shoot fee?"
You know the answer is no. You just don't want to write that email for the fourth time this month — usually on a Sunday, usually after four rewrites, usually ending at a number lower than you meant.
The two conversations every photographer has forever
- The client who assumes the day rate includes worldwide, in-perpetuity, all-media usage.
- The client who books a half day, then quietly needs the images for a campaign.
Both are winnable. Both cost you an evening and a bit of goodwill you'd rather spend elsewhere.
What Daiko does about it
You set the boundaries once, calmly, before you know whose email is coming:
- Your floor — the number below which you'd rather not shoot.
- Your non-negotiables — licence priced separately from the shoot fee, a stated term and territory, no perpetuity, deposit on booking, kill fee, credit.
- Your target — what you're actually aiming for.
Then it works the inbox. It asks what the brief left out — usage, term, territory, deadline. It counters a half-rate offer with the market range for that usage in your city, the statute that protects freelancers where you are, and the scope actually being requested. It concedes in slices, in the tone you chose, and never crosses the floor.
"Full rights" usually means "we haven't thought about usage." Asking which usage, where, and for how long turns an argument into a scoping conversation — and the number tends to go up on its own.
Where you come in
When an offer clears your floor — or when the gap won't close — Daiko stops and sends you one email: the money, the terms, and the client's own last message. You reply APPROVE, REVISE: hold at 1200 and separate the licence, or DECLINE. Nothing is agreed or declined without that reply.
What it does not do
- It does not agree or decline for you.
- No phone, no video, no in-person negotiation. Email only.
- It does not chase invoices, write contracts, or give legal advice.
- It is not a lawyer or an agent — the rates and statutes it reports are research, so verify them.
